ACADIA CHORAL SOCIETY SPRING CONCERTS
Friday, May 1 at 7:00pm
St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Ellsworth
Saturday, May 2 at 4:00pm
St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor
Our Spring concert invites listeners into a shared, reflective breath. The cornerstone of the concert is Michael John Trotta’s Breath of Ecstasy, a sweeping and intimate work for choir, string quartet, and oboe. The seven-movement masterpiece draws its texts from American poet Sara Teasdale, exploring themes of love and companionship. Following this centerpiece is a sequence or works inspired by the many meanings of breath: Sherry Blevins’s Breath of Life shimmers with hope and renewal, Ysaye Barnwell’s Breaths pulses with rhythmic vitality and human connection, Tracy Wong’s Breathe offers a moment of calm grace, and Ernani Aguilar’s jubilant Salmo 150 brings the evening to a thrilling, celebratory close. These choral works create a concert that feels both grounding and uplifting, offering a chance for singers and audience members to pause, listen, and breathe together.
